High Carbon Si-C Alloy Si55C15

We press our silicon carbon alloy out of carbon powder, silicon carbide powder and metal silicon powder, held together with a low sulfur, low nitrogen carbon binder. It leaves the press as blocks, granules, balls or fines - you pick the shape your feeder likes.

The idea is blunt: inside the converter this one material does the work of ferrosilicon, silicon carbide and the recarburizer at once. Three purchases become one.

Si55C15 is the grade we run most. When a buyer asks for something else, we also make Si50C15 and Si40C18.

Iron stays under 1.5 percent, aluminium and calcium under 2 each, and we hold sulfur and phosphorus at 0.05 or below. If your own spec sits tighter in one spot, say so at the enquiry and we set the heat to it.

Most shops drop it during tapping, riding the steel stream, or straight into the furnace late in the blow. Work on three to eight kilos per ton of steel, then trim that against wherever your endpoint oxygen lands.

Rebar is the bread and butter here - Q235 and HRB400 mostly. We have also run the balls through a 1# AOD converter as an extended trial, and they held up fine.

Two things happen when it melts. The silicon chases the oxygen and lifts a slag you can float off; the carbon that stays behind tightens the steel. One material, one weighbridge ticket, one handling step.

The slag side matters as much. Oxides clump instead of scattering, so they come out with the slag, and the stream stays movable. If you have ever fought a frozen nozzle through a long heat, you know what that is worth.

Does it replace FeSi outright?
For pre-deoxidation at tapping, yes. The last deep deoxidation you close your own way - that is your ladle practice.

Blocks. They are the safe start. The balls we have run in a 1# AOD here, but start where you are comfortable.

Can you hold a tighter sulfur?
Yes. We press from a low sulfur binder as standard, and we can push it lower on request.
