Standard Ferro Silicon Slag 65

Ferro silicon slag is what is left over when silicon metal is smelted. It is not a refined alloy and we do not sell it as one: it is a dark grey or black lump or granule, dense and heat resistant, and it earns its keep as a cheap source of residual silicon and as a slag conditioner. The 65 grade on this page is the richer end of what we screen.

Add it late in the tap and it takes a bite out of the dissolved oxygen and helps the slag stay fluid, so the inclusions can float. It is also used as a cheap substitute silicon source or as a return material in the charge. Be clear about the limit though: slag is not FeSi. If you are running a grade with a tight silicon window, keep it out of the charge.

Screened to 10-50 mm or 10-100 mm, or to the size you ask for. Packing is 1 MT jumbo bags, and each lot leaves with its own analysis.

Our slag is a by-product of the silicon metal furnaces at Anyang, Henan, China, screened and graded before it leaves the yard.

Can slag replace FeSi? For plain carbon and re-melt work as a partial substitute, yes - not where the silicon figure is held tightly.
