High Purity Silicon Carbide SiC 98

Silicon carbide (SiC) is a very hard, heat resistant material that keeps its chemical stability even inside an aggressive slag. We supply it in both the black and the green form. In a steel plant the metallurgical grade works as a deoxidiser and as a source of silicon and carbon at the same time; away from the melt the same material goes into abrasives, refractory bricks and, at far higher purity, semiconductor substrates.

Other grades in the same family, SiC 98.5 / 97 / 95 / 70, can be screened to your spec on request.

Most of our steel customers take this as a single deoxidiser that also tops up silicon and carbon, so they stop buying FeSi and a separate carburiser. You add it with the tapping stream or straight into the furnace, and the reaction products float out with the slag. Tell us the size that suits your furnace and we screen it for you, because a converter and a foundry ladle rarely want the same cut.

Standard packing is 1 MT jumbo bags, with 25 kg bags available when a customer wants smaller units. Each lot is chemically analysed in the lab before it leaves, so a COA can travel with the shipment. Production normally runs 7 to 10 days from order.

Which type do you supply, black or green? Both. Black is the usual pick for steel and refractory work, so say a word if your process needs the green one.

Can you match a particular particle size? Yes. Tell us the cut you run and we screen it; a converter and a foundry ladle often want something different.

Can the grade be adjusted? The table above is our standard, but grades and specs can be made to your request.
