Low Silicon Ferro Silicon Slag

Silicon slag is what's left over after we smelt silicon metal, and weve been selling it to steel plants for years. Its a cheap way to add some silicon and clean up the melt. Ours comes out dark grey to black, as grains or lumps.

Basically its the industrial residue from silicon smelting. It still carries a useful amount of silicon, so instead of throwing it away, steelmakers use it as an auxiliary deoxidizer or a substitute silicon source. Density runs about 2.0 to 2.5 g/cm3 and it stays solid well above 1500 C, so it handles fine in the furnace.

Converters and electric arc furnaces add it near the end of the heat to help deoxidize the steel. The silicon reacts with oxygen in the melt and forms SiO2, which helps the slag flow and lets inclusions float up. Foundries use it as a recirculating charge, and some plants blend it into sinter as a silicon source.

One thing to keep in mind though, silicon slag is not the same as ferro silicon. It works as an auxiliary deoxidizer or a substitute, but for steel grades that need tight silicon control you should use proper FeSi. We tell every customer this up front, it saves trouble later.

Can silicon slag replace ferro silicon?
As a cheaper auxiliary deoxidizer yes, but for steel that needs strict silicon control you should still use proper ferro silicon. We wont push slag where it doesn't fit.

Yes, a certificate of analysis ships with every lot and third party inspection is available on request.
